Fade In: Rhythm 21 (1921, NR, dir. Hans Richter)
For the first spring 2012 edition of Fade In, the VAC presents Hans Richter's 1921 avant-garde film, Rhythm 21. Screened in response to Justin Boyd's exhibition, Dubforms, Richter's first film stands at the very beginning of the avant-garde film movement, presenting an innovative approach never before seen on film. In Rhythm 21, Richter utilized the movie screen as a substitute for the painter's canvas, and articulated movements of mathematical precision and graphic clarity on screen. This short silent film will run continuously on a loop until midnight each evening through March 10. |
