![]() Klemm lights up Wally Workman Austin favorite, Will Klemm has a new group of work on view at Wally Workman Gallery. Klemm offers up both familiar pastels as well as lustrous oil paintings. Known for his luminescent landscapes and serene still-life's, Klemm has added candles to his repertoire. This is a well-suited symbol for him to adopt, emblematic of the radiant quality for which his work is known. In his candle paintings Klemm's colorist tendencies seem scaled back, focusing on simplicity and spirituality conveyed through light. Executed in oil, these works depict different groupings of white candles rising to various heights. Their flames burn brightly against mysteriously dark backgrounds. Along with Klemm's candles, expect atmospheric seascapes, mountainscapes and skyscapes, all jewel-like and gleaming. Will Klemm -New Work: Pastel & Oil continues through Saturday, November 26, 2005. Artist Inspired by Gallery Setting Slugfest is presenting a charming group of prints by Austin-based artist, Jill Thrasher. Thrasher works in a variety of printmaking media, including lithography, woodcut, linocut and chine collé. She sites the surroundings of Slugfest Printmaking Studio. Motifs include a cat (you are likely to spot on a visit to the gallery), in addition to leafy vines, nudes, anatomical images and geometric patterns. Often multiple prints are hung together to create a larger patched together image. Thrasher's prints are complex, detailed and accomplished. Of her recent work she states, "Working with a process rather than fighting the materials guides the outcome." A Studio Portrait: Prints by Jill Thrasher continues through Saturday, December 3, 2005. Seeing Blue at D. Berman Who knew there were so many shades of blue? The folks at D. Berman Gallery do, hosting The Blue Paintings by Denny McCoy. Painted in vertical bands, McCoy's compositions recall color field and hard-edge legends like Ellsworth Kelly. A restricted yet surprisingly varied palette along with an emphasis on geometry and the two dimensionality of painting, characterize the formal aspects of these works. Moreover, they become meditative tools that pulsate and reverberate after significant contemplation. The Blue Paintings by Denny McCoy continues through Friday December 2, 2005.
